Cursor: Cloud Agents with Computer Use

Cursor just launched 🤖Cloud Agents with Computer Use🚀. What does this actually mean?

Cloud Agents are autonomous AI agents that run inside isolated cloud-based virtual machines (VMs). Instead of assisting you within your local IDE, they operate in their own sandboxed environments.

The Workflow:
You give them a high-level task. They spin up their own dev environment, hook into your codebase, and manage the entire cycle. I.e., executing code, running tests, fixing bugs, and iterating autonomously.

The Impact:
Parallelism is no longer constrained by your local CPU or RAM. These agents scale horizontally by spinning up multiple, concurrent environments. This is elevated productivity for a developer through delegated execution.

Context:
It’s worth acknowledging that the foundational thinking behind this cloud agent (i.e., “AI as a co-pilot” to “AI as a remote worker”) has been explored early on by Happycapy. Something I touched upon in one of my earlier posts.

Expected pattern (going forward):
More autonomous execution in cloud sandboxes. This will propagate quickly across the ecosystem, from Claude to Gemini and beyond soon.
